Easter is one of those holidays where you might not be sure\nif it merits a whole house temporary refurb \u2013 like Christmas. There\u2019s no doubt\nthat the winter holidays get most of our attention but perhaps you can use the\nEaster spring as a gateway to a great summer. The current market gears Easter\nup as a holiday aimed more at children and copious amount of chocolate – which,\nlet\u2019s face it, will melt anyway if this heat continues – and there\u2019s no reason\nnot to make it a more grown-up affair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Flowers are definitely a good starting point. They\u2019re in\nabundance this time of year. Daffodils and tulips are ready for display,\nespecially if you\u2019re not wanting your flowers to come with air miles. Daffodils\nand narcissus are very effective in small bunches and add a friendly \u2018pop\u2019 of\nyellow wherever you want to place them. If you want your flowers to last even\nlonger and don\u2019t have any plant food come with the bouquet, aspirin or\ncarbonated water are known to give cut flowers a bit of a longer lifespan.\nPersonally, I can\u2019t keep plants alive for that long. I\u2019ve been known to kill\nsucculents and cacti. If you ever come across them; branches of the cotton\nplant (yes, the same stuff they make clothes from) looks particularly grown-up\nas a no-maintenance alternative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Easter symbols for the home this time of year might include\neggs, trees, rabbits and palm fronds. This is a great opportunity to get\ncreative with children. Who doesn\u2019t love painting eggs! Depending on your skill\nlevels and the freshness of the eggs, do think about cutting a small hole in\nthe shell before painting. Accidents happen, even with paintbrushes. You can\ntake it one step further in your cooking and creativity by using something like\nduck eggs. The blue speckled pattern looks great in contrast to chicken eggs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re looking to take things one step further with your\ncolouring, pastels are more traditional this time of year and are making a bit\nof a comeback! Be advised that you should always research your paint colours,\ntry them on walls for a little while before going all out. There are a couple\nof excellent paint libraries that offer something more serious than a \u2018cotton\ncandy pink\u2019 or \u2018baby sky blue\u2019 and are a strong step away from magnolia or\nplain white. Most suppliers have free paint cards and offer sample pots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
